Location Luxurious Vumbura Plains lies in an area that is a mix of water and dry land. The wildlife is diverse so that both land and water activities on vehicles, mekoro and boats deliver an all-round African safari experience. Accommodation Vumbura Plains comprises two satellite camps, each with its own main area with an expansive vista across the floodplains and furnished with idiosyncratic objets d’art. The 14 tents, raised off the ground, are unique and contemporary in design, with extensive use of light, wood and space. Each includes a sunken lounge, sala, and plunge pool. Location Hyena Pan is in the Khwai Private Reserve, which borders Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai River and Chobe National Park and is considered one of Botswana’s best game viewing areas. Desert & Delta Camp Okavango

Xigera Safari Lodge

Xigera Safari Lodge is surrounded by picturesque papyrus swamps and wooded islands and is renowned for its very high density of sitatunga antelope. The area is known for remarkable mammal sightings including red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, elephant, buffalo, reedbuck and tsessebe Predators include lion, spotted hyaena and leopard. Sable Alley is brand new and ready to rumble having only opened in May 2017, and the 55-square metre tents are comfortable and stylish (and enormous!), with en-suite facilities and indoor and outdoor showers. Enjoy sweeping views of the wildlife-dotted lagoon from each tent – this is world-class game viewing without leaving camp. The game viewing in the area around Sable Alley is fantastic, and you’ll find lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo all in close proximity as well as a multi-coloured array of birdlife. We allow a maximum of seven guests per vehicle and only three vehicles are allowed at any sighting meaning there’s not an overcrowded game drive in sight. There’s an exciting range of activities to get stuck into, including day and evening game drives, mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions (when water levels permit), game walks, viewing hides, and more. The waterholes dry up and the game congregates along the river frontage. In September the temperatures soar to mid to late 30’s. Before the rains start the Chobe is tense with the crackle of dry bushveld as thousands of elephants and other game congregate on the flood plains. Low Season – November, December January to March When the first rains arrive the bushveld sighs with relief – the flush of new growth is welcome as the new generation of plains game are born. The migrant species of birds return, and the Chobe comes alive with new life. The summer rains are predominantly localised afternoon thundershowers. Once the rains have established the game disperses away from the Chobe – the zebra return to the Savuti Marsh, the elephants to their seasonal grazing areas such to Zambia or Zimbabwe. But a few remain affording a fantastic safari any time of year. Mid-Season – April, May, June The temperatures are pleasant, with warm days late 20’s (°C) and comfortable nights. It is dry with the last of the rains. The bush is dying back and the grass is turning golden brown. In June the temperatures start dropping particularly in the early morning and evenings. The Chobe River usually floods in June when the rains from further upstream arrive in the Zambezi and push back up the Chobe.
